Well, remember when Aple Bloom got the Cutie Pox and it was mentioned that it happened to a old village before.
The village Applebloom stumbled upon with the Blank Flanks?
...That was the village. The ponies were frightened by that disaster, so they killed Ruby, who got her Cutie Mark by finding a red gem--which Applebloom found--and gave the gem to Roneo. The ponies panicked and murdered her, and then they were cursed.
